History

Unusual Beginnings

Through unusual circumstances and an unusual calling, at only 13 (1973), Scott Reese began sharing the Gospel of Jesus Christ weekly in some of the most challenging urban areas of Chicago (Robert Taylor Homes, Roseland, Gary etc.).

By age 17, (1977) as a Senior in High School Scott Reese started a High School Bible Club. Soon his Living Room became packed out with teenagers so a local Recreational Hall was soon rented. Scott was blessed to have awesome friends help with this outreach and soon that Bible Club split into five clubs in the area.  Since the Bible Clubs also involved Basketball a number of kids started coming from Ford Heights, which was then the poorest suburb in the entire country.

Ford Heights proved to be so receptive to the gospel that soon they directed their energies into Ford Heights… even taking over an abandoned building and making it into their Bible Club House (They felt if the drug dealers could take over abandoned buildings for crime, they should be able to take one over for Jesus!). Soon there seemed to be a need to start a church for the teens and their families so they started Sunday afternoon Bible Clubs also, and soon started a church which was officially incorporated in 1980 in the Projects of Ford Heights.
